Maragas Winery

Doug Maragas planted wine grapes outside Culver in 1999 after climatologists said Central Oregon couldn't grow them; two decades on, the 21-acre estate vineyard supports 20 varietals across seven blocks, from Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc to Riesling and Chardonnay. The tasting room on Highway 97, ten minutes north of Redmond, pours barrel-aged reds and estate whites alongside artisan cheese boards, with the Lattavo Gallery's rotating art on the walls and views stretching from Smith Rock to seven Cascade peaks. Live jazz and concerts land on summer weekends; settle into an Adirondack chair on the lawn with a flight.
