A paved road to the summit operates on a timed shuttle system in summer. The visitor center itself features geology exhibits and ranger programs. Surrounding lava flows and obsidian fields extend for miles; sturdy shoes are essential on the basalt paths. A Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful pass is required.
