Tucked along Illinois Gulch Road, the Washington Mine and Milling Exhibit is a self-guided outdoor site where original mining equipment and reconstructed structures tell the story of Breckenridge's gold rush era. A newer milling exhibit features all the major equipment used to process ore brought out from underground mines, with interpretive signs at every stop. The site typically opens June through September during daylight hours, weather permitting. Closed-toe shoes and warm layers are recommended. Free to visit, with limited on-site parking and a Summit Stage bus stop nearby.
