Swallow Falls State Park is one of Maryland's most spectacular natural settings — a 1.5-mile Canyon Loop Trail through a primeval old-growth hemlock forest alongside the Youghiogheny River, passing Swallow Falls and Muddy Creek Falls, the highest waterfall in Maryland. The trail is accessible to most visitors, with a handicap-accessible path to Muddy Creek Falls. A 5.5-mile White Trail connects to Herrington Manor State Park. Admission is $3 (Maryland residents) to $5 (out-of-state) per person in summer; $3–$5 per car off-season. Open 8am to sunset daily.
