One hundred fifty years ago, pioneer and naturalist Edwin Carter began showcasing 3,300 taxidermied animals inside his Breckenridge cabin. Today the museum operates from that same building on North Ridge Street, with interactive displays on Carter's conservation work, a hands-on taxidermy workbench, a children's room, and a small theater. His specimens went on to become the founding collection of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Plan 30 to 90 minutes for a self-guided or docent-led visit. Free admission with a $5 suggested donation.
