More than twenty-five years ago, Jodi began her vacation rental career in the most hands-on way possible—working as a hot tub technician in her parents’ Deep Creek Lake vacation rental business while attending West Virginia University. After graduating, her role continued to grow, giving her the opportunity to work in nearly every aspect of the business, from operations and housekeeping to marketing, owner relations, and guest services. Joe’s path began in the hospitality industry, where he spent years in restaurant management at Deep Creek Lake. Recognizing his leadership skills and operational experience, Jodi’s parents brought him into the family business to help develop and manage a commercial laundry facility serving their growing portfolio of vacation rental homes. As it turned out, Jodi and Joe were a great match in business and in life, and they married in 2006. When Jodi’s parents sold their company in 2008, Jodi and Joe partnered with Jodi’s brother, Chad, to create Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales. What began as a small, locally owned company grew into the largest vacation rental management company at Deep Creek Lake, ultimately earning the trust of more than 500 homeowners and welcoming thousands of guests who returned year after year. Their success was built on principles that remain important to them today: hard work, exceptional service, strong relationships with homeowners, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to the guest experience. Along the way, Jodi, Joe, and Chad became nationally recognized leaders within the vacation rental industry. Jodi served in numerous leadership roles with the Vacation Rental Management Association (VRMA), including Chair of the Board, while Joe served as President of the Vacation Rental Housekeeping Professionals (VRHP). They built relationships with vacation rental professionals across the country, sharing ideas and best practices while continuing to learn and evolve themselves. In 2021, they made the decision to sell the vacation rental division of Taylor-Made. But their passion for hospitality—and for creating exceptional places for people to stay—never went away. Then Came Timber Rock Village Timber Rock Village gave Jodi and Joe the opportunity to approach vacation rentals from a completely different perspective: this time, as the homeowners. Together, they began developing a collection of purpose-built vacation homes at Deep Creek Lake with a focus on the details they had learned mattered most throughout decades of managing properties. From thoughtful floor plans and quality furnishings to private suites, outdoor living spaces, hot tubs, recreation, and carefully selected finishes, each home was designed specifically with the vacation rental guest experience in mind. As Timber Rock Village grew, so did their vision. The community expanded to include amenities designed to create more of a resort experience, including a pool, fitness center, pickleball, and additional spaces for guests to gather and relax. Perhaps most importantly, Timber Rock allowed them to experience vacation rental management from an owner's perspective. They saw firsthand the importance of protecting the investment, maintaining the quality of a home, communicating openly, addressing maintenance proactively, and choosing service partners who care about the property as much as the owner does. That experience reinforced something they had believed throughout their careers: Great vacation rental management is about much more than generating bookings. It is about caring for homes, building trusted relationships with owners, creating exceptional experiences for guests, and never compromising on quality, service, or safety. Today, Jodi and Joe are bringing together everything they have learned—from building and operating one of Deep Creek Lake's largest vacation rental companies to developing and managing their own homes at Timber Rock Village—to create the next chapter of their story.
