It started with Rachel making invitations. Grommets. Brown envelopes. A soft metallic ink that caught the light of the mountain sun. Some invitations were for Rachel’s wedding. Some were for strangers – handwritten and tied with care – inviting them to join a new kind of portfolio. This was the making of Abode Luxury Rentals: one thousand handcrafted mailers, five keen responses, and a couple deciding – night after night – to keep building. In 2008, Rachel hadn’t planned to stay in Park City. She was from Chicago, and ironically enough, didn’t ski. But then came a dinner invitation, which became somewhat of a life-changing introduction. Rachel was at a small restaurant opening where she first met Rob. Introverted, steady Rob. They paired together, in more ways than one. By 2010, Rachel and Rob hired their first employee – Carlos Junior. Abode’s first office was essentially a closet; a tiny basement space in Park City’s Main Street, with just enough room for a couple of chairs and infinite belief. Then came 2012, with their first child on the way, Rachel left her six-figure salary to lead Abode Luxury Rentals with Rob, full-time. There was no backup plan in sight, nor any mention of the words “maternity leave”; the family’s livelihood wholly depended on the success of the company. Today, Abode Luxury Rentals manages a portfolio of over 200 exceptional, luxury homes across Park City, Utah; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and Sun Valley, Idaho. The team, now dozens and dozens strong, still feels like family. Luxury lives in the small moments here. In the fire lit before a guest arrives. In a fridge filled without asking. In the founding myth that comes to life in every single Abode home. It’s been decades since Rachel handcrafted those invitations. Now, with her husband Rob, she continues to open doors for the world’s most discerning travelers, all looking for something extraordinarily different from their ski retreat. They say, some things are written in the stars – we have reason to believe that the greatest stories are written in the mountain peaks.
